T The Institutionalization of the Dalcroze Certification Program    

<Objective>
   Dalcroze Eurhythmics is the method of education devised by the musician and educator Emile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865-1950). InJapan, Dalcroze Eurhythmics has been long regarded in the field of child education and has been adopted and widened in this field.
This Certification Program is instituted with the aims of establishing and widening the recognition of Eurhythmics, not only in the field of child education but also as a music education, of which was the catalyst to Emile Jaques-Dalcroze’s (hereinafter referred to as Dalcroze) creation of Dalcroze Eurhythmics; further, to cultivate competent teachers so that the underlying concept of Dalcroze is properly inherited.

 

<The Underlying Concept of the Certification>
   This certification (qualification) was established by Dalcroze himself with the intentions of the Dalcroze educational philosophy and its underlying concept be inherited justly.

The name “Dalcroze” describes the method of education devised by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, and the use of the name is protected by international law.
The Institute Jaques-Dalcroze (Geneva), founded by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, is entrusted the verification of the usage of the name, “Dalcroze”, by institutions or individual persons who provides education to people of various age groups and level under this name.
This is in accordance to Dalcroze’s Will.
In regards to the issuance of the Dalcroze certification, teachers who have acquired the Dalcroze Diploma from the Institute Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva are granted carte blanche by the Institute to train and nurture Dalcroze teachers,
hold certification examinations and award the certification
The issuance of the certification is made by the association or organization, of which the Dalcroze Diploma holder is
affiliated with. In Japan, the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan, under the approval of the Institute Jaques-Dalcroze
will administer and manage the Dalcroze Certification Program and issue the certifications in our country.
 *The terms〜 is based on the codes of the Institute Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva.

T The Levels of the Dalcroze Certification  

   The Dalcroze Certification consists of three levels, as listed below. Depending on the level of certification, the extent of which one can teach is determined.

<Diploma>
The Diploma is issued by the Institute Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva.

 Qualifications
1) The instruction of Eurhythmics, Solfege and Improvisation to people of all age groups and levels.
2) The cultivation of Dalcroze teachers.
3) The management of the Dalcroze certification examinations and the issuance of the certifications.

<License>
 The License is issued by the association or organization the Diploma holder is affiliated with.
 In Japan, the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan will be the issuer of certification.

 Qualifications
1) The instruction of Eurhythmics, Solfege and Improvisation to people of all age groups and levels.

<Certificate>
 The Certificate is issued by the association or organization the Diploma holder is affiliated with.
 In Japan, the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan will be the issuer of certification.

 Qualifications
1) The instruction of Eurhythmics, Solfege and Improvisation to people, other than music professionals*1, of all age groups.
*1 music professionals refers to music students, musicians, performers, music educators, etc


T The Process in Acquiring the Certifications  

 1.Determining the Required Coursework Hours
   By fulfilling the determined coursework hours mentioned below, one would be eligible to take the examination.
       ・Certificate  200hours
       ・License  200hours
The required coursework hours must be fulfilled for each level of certification.
In principle, the examination is to be taken from the Certificate level.
Upon the candidate’s request, with the recommendation of one Diploma holder or two license holders,
it is possible to omit the Certificate examination and begin their examinations at the License level


 2.Special Programs
 Special Distinction Program
Even if the candidate has not completed the required coursework hours, the Certification Committee’s approval of the submitted recommendation by one Diploma holder or two License holders and the required application, may grant the candidate the eligibility to take the examination. This program is available permanently.
As for those who will take the License examination, they will be required to, along with the Step 3 and 4 requirements, submit a teaching VTR of a children’s lesson. (refer to the attached for information regarding the Steps and examination requirements)
Special Measures
If one can meet the provisions 1), 2) and 3) mentioned below, the coursework partaken before the start of the Certification Program may be considered as coursework hours and will be granted the eligibility to take the certification examination.

1)One who have a recommendation by one Diploma holder or two License holders.
2)One who is already affiliated with a university, vocational school, research workshop before the start of the Certification program, and who has enrolled in a regular class offered by a Diploma or License holder.
3)One who has submitted the required application to the Certification Committee within 2 years after the commencement date of the Certification Program, and have obtained the committee’s approval.
The Process in Acquiring Coursework Hours

 3.The Process in Acquiring Coursework Hours
Enroll in regular classes (university, vocational schools, research workshops) held by Diploma or License holders.
Attend workshops, domestically and abroad, held by Diploma or License holders.

 4.The Accreditation of Required Coursework Hours
  The signature of the instructor-in-charge and the number of coursework hour fulfilled recorded in the coursework  verification form enacted by the Society (Dalcroze Passport issued by the Society) accredits the required coursework  hours. The content of the classes and lectures must be specialized in the Dalcroze method as music education.
The signature by the instructor-in-charge*2) for the regular classes (universities, vocational schools, research workshops, etc) and lectures in workshops held within Japan.

*2) instructor-in-charge refers to an instructor who is a Diploma or License holder and is registered in the Certification Committee’s list of instructors
The signature by the local instructor-in-charge with a Diploma or License certification for the workshops held outside of Japan.

 5.Registration for the Certification Program
Certification candidates, both Society members and non-members, are required to register with the Certification Program of the Society.
Registration  fee Members  20000yen
Non-members  35000yen
The coursework verification form (Dalcroze Passport) and the Dalcroze Certification Handbook will be issued upon registration.
The advancement to the License certification will require one to reapply for the Dalcroze Passport and pay a re-registration fee.
*Re-registration fee 5,000 yen
The loss of the Passport will require the procedure in re-issuance.

T Certification Examination Overview

 1.Examination Contents and Processes 
  Upon the completion of the required 200-coursework hours, the candidate will take the following steps towards the certification examination



<Certificate>
 Step1
   Examination content: Eurhythmics, Solfege, Improvisation, Plastique anime
Examination process: The examination, offered by the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan, will basically be held once a year at the last weekend of August.
 Step2
  Examination content:Teaching examination, short essay
Examination process:Teaching examination submitted by VTR.
The teaching examination VTR and short essay must be submitted by the given deadline and will be screened by the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan.
The screening will, basically, be held once a year, the last weekend of August. Screening will be held on an as-needed basis when there are many examinees
 *The Certificate will be rewarded upon the successful completion of Step 1 and Step 2 examinations.

<License>
 Step3
   Examination content: Eurhythmics, Solfege, Improvisation, Plastique anime
Examination process: The examination, offered by the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan, will basically be held once a year at the last weekend of August.
 Step4
  Examination content:Teaching examination, short essay, personal interview
Examination process:The teaching examination will be to teach a group of students live at the examination venue.
The short essay must be submitted by the given deadline and will be screened by the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan.
The teaching examination and personal interview, offered by the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan, will basically be held once a year at the last weekend of August.
  *The License will be rewarded upon the successful completion of Step 3 and Step 4 examinations.

 2.Points to be Noted Regarding the Examination
Apply for the application form from the Certification Committee and submit it to the Committee atleast 3 months prior to the examination date.
It is possible to take Step 1 and Step 2 examinations simultaneously. However, all of Step 1 examinations must be successfully completed before Step 2 examinations will be screened. Thus, solely completing Step 2 examinations is not acceptable.
It is possible to take Step 3 and Step 4 examinations simultaneously. However, all of Step 3 examinations must be successfully completed before Step 4 examinations will be screened. Thus, solely completing Step 4 examinations is not acceptable.
Upon completing the former of the two steps of each level of certification, Certificate (Step 1, 2), License (Step 3,4), Elementary (completion of the 4 elements: Solfege, Improvisation and Plastique Anime), one must undertake the examination of the next step within two years. One will be required to re-take the former step if the duration between the examinations of the two steps exceeds 2 years.
In the case mentioned above, one will be required to pay a separate examination fee for each subject.

 3.Examiners

T Others 

 1.The Engagement of the Society
  Dalcroze Eurhythmics classes and workshops planned and taught by Diploma and License holders of any association are  permitted. If the content of the workshop is not appropriate, the Society will provide advice and support for improvement but will not take part in the designing of the plan itself.

 2.Special Certification
  The Society of Japan will establish the certification “Elementary” which is available and recognized only in Japan. Refer to p.7−8 for information regarding the Elementary certification.

Special Certification<Elementary>
  As a special certification, the Society of Japan, with the approval of the Institute Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva, will establish the certification “Elementary”. This certification is unique to Japan and is only recognized within this country, and will be issued by the Jaques-Dalcroze Society of Japan.

 Qualifications
  The holder of this certification will be eligible to apply the Dalcroze educational principles and ideas in his/her  area of profession.
 Note: The holder is not permitted to teach Dalcroze Eurhythmics professionally and cultivate Dalcroze Eurhythmics teachers.

By fulfilling the required 150-coursework hours, one will be eligible to take the examination.
The Process in Acquiring Coursework Hours
Enroll in regular classes (university, vocational schools, research workshops) or workshops held within Japan and abroad.

 2.The Accreditation of Required Coursework Hours
  The signature of the instructor-in-charge and the number of coursework hour fulfilled recorded in the coursework verification form enacted by the Society (Dalcroze Passport issued by the Society) accredits the required coursework hours. The content of the classes and lectures must be specialized in the Dalcroze method as music education

The signature by the instructor-in-charge*3) and/or the attachment of the class enrollment note verifying the number of hours fulfilled for the regular classes (universities, vocational schools, research workshops, etc) and lectures in workshops held within Japan
*3) instructor-in-charge refers to an instructor who is a Diploma or License holder and is registered in the Certification Committee’s list of instructors
The signature by the local instructor-in-charge with a Diploma or License certification for the workshops held outside of Japan.
 
 3.Special Programs
Special Distinction Program
Even if the candidate has not completed the required 150 coursework hours, the Certification Committee’s. approval of the submitted recommendation by one Diploma holder or two License holders and the required application, may grant the candidate the eligibility to take the examination. This program is available permanently.
Special Measures

 Examination process: The screening will, basically, be held on the dates of the General assembly. Screening will held on an as-needed basis when there are many examinees.    
 * The Elementary Certification will be rewarded upon the successful completion of all the examinations

 5.Registration for the Certification Program
Certification candidates, both Society members and non-members, are required to register with the certification program of the Society.
        Registration fee   Members  20000yen
Non-members  35000yen
The coursework verification form (Dalcroze Passport) and the Dalcroze Certification Handbook will be issued upon registration.

One will be required to re-take the Eurhythmics, Solfege, Improvisation and Plastique amine examination if the duration between the examinations of the two steps exceeds 2 years.
In the case mentioned above, one will be required to pay a separate examination fee for each subject
